The Photogrammetric Installation 'Voidis'

Fustic. presented 'voidis' at L'OFFICIEL Vietnam's annual 'Ô' exhibition, held at the Bitexco Financial Tower under the theme 'Ô Hope: Between Despair and Renewal'. The installation invites viewers to consider hope through the lens of presence and absence within themselves.

To stare is a deliberate act of attention. To be stared back at is to meet something beyond our control. The work lives in the tension between those two: the seen and the unseen, presence and absence held together as equal forces. Hope, within this framework, is not the absence of uncertainty. It is the capacity to remain oriented within it.

A tree floats in undefined space, neither grounded nor falling. It does not resolve. It persists. That image is the heart of 'voidis': life continuing not despite emptiness, but within it.

To build the work, our team scanned a living one using photogrammetry. The process required the artist to move physically around the object, shifting angles and attending to surfaces that routine perception misses. The act of scanning became an act of seeing. The scanned data was then processed through generative algorithms, breaking the tree's form into thousands of small, dynamic particles. These elements drift and evolve in open space, untethered from any fixed origin. 

The resulting environment is a narrative space where technology serves as a medium for resonance rather than a tool for rigid control. Visually, the artwork presents a continuous flow of shifting light and motion, revealing different facets of the object as it drifts through the darkness. By integrating art and innovation, ‘voidis’ provides a space for reflection, inviting the audience to consider the meaning of rebirth even in the most empty environments.
